It was a great dinner with friends. Everything on my reviews except the desert are recommended (not bad, just too sweet for me). Love the raw fish, prawns dish, and lamb best!!!! A bit noisy on the second floor. The manager is so kind to make me a note on the menu so that next time I won't forget what I had before and which one I wanna have again.

A memorable and mouthwatering experience at Rangoon Ruby I had the pleasure of dining at Rangoon Ruby on Colombo Street in Christchurch, thanks to a thoughtful recommendation—and invitation—from a friend originally from Burma. What a delightful discovery. The restaurant’s interior is simply stunning. Modern touches blend seamlessly with traditional Burmese details—from the intricately designed menu on the wall and the colorful umbrellas adorning the ceiling, to the striking mural of Burmese women gracing the back wall. It creates a welcoming and culturally rich atmosphere. From the moment we stepped inside, the hospitality was exceptional. The hostess greeted us with genuine warmth, and we were pleasantly surprised when the Chef and members of the kitchen staff came out to say hello. Our waiter was equally impressive—friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Now, the food. Every dish was a standout. The seafood was perfectly cooked, infused with delicate yet vibrant flavours. The beef curry was melt-in-your-mouth tender, no knife required. I couldn’t get enough of the Tea Leaf Salad—I nearly finished the entire thing myself. We ended on a high note with a dessert that tasted like a comforting blend of warm rice pudding and sponge cake, paired with fresh fruit and cream. All in all, Rangoon Ruby offers a truly special dining experience—flavourful, heartfelt, and beautifully executed. It’s an absolute must-try.

Really unique and subtle flavours. The tea salad was delicious with a deep, umami flavour throughout due to the fermented tea-leaves. The fermentation renders the tea-leaves almost a fishiness that was surprisingly pleasant. The various nuts and legumes gave it a freshness and texture that was varied. The beef curry was very mild and the meat amazingly tender. Grilled eggplant likely had the fermented tea-leaves mixed through it and was savoury and delicious.

Excellent fusion Burmese food. Best dishes are Tea Salad, Papaya salad, raw fish salad and their lamb skewers. Definitely have to book before going, especially weekend. Their tea salad is unlike anything you will experience in terms of a perfect blend of flavours. Certainly a must in one's life.

A rare find in Christchurch. Burmese food with the Burmese chef/owner’s infusion of Japanese quality, attention to details (obtained while working in Japan) while maintaining the original Myanmar cuisine taste. Recommended!
